Friends,

A few months ago I posted a question regarding selling 64H. I took your advice and listed her on Barnstormers. Had to change the add a few times due to my ignorance of the LSA rule (64H isnt LSA compliant), and have answered several emails from prospective buyers.

One prospect took a look and her and presented me with a laundry list of repairs that need to be done (thanks Alan, if you are reading this). This list was long and painful to read, but in the end, 'not all is lost' according to him. My plane has gone from a Coupe needing an annual and an AD, to a project plane needing restoration, and the selling price will reflect this.

I feel an obligation to this plane, something I cant quite explain, but that you all might understand. She either goes to a competent mechanic who can restore her, or I have to do it myself. I already have turned away people looking for something that the Coupe is not (even had one guy offer to do the annual BEFORE purchase, at his expense.. If only we all had that kind of money) Too much history in these planes to let it rot into dust. its a matter of personal integrity to me as well.

So, here is my question: When I return to the states in Aug (Arkansas) (Thank God! No more deployments to Iraq!..There arent any Ercoupes in Iraq!) Can I restore this plane, under the supervision of an A&P (IA?). Can I do the work? Can I do the restoration in small projects, and have the work inspected (much like EAA does w/ experimentals) as I progress?

Please note, I am NOT looking for a way to save money. Please read this last sentence again. My reason for selling 64H in the first place was to finance an experimental project that I wanted to begin. Seems to me that I have exactly that right in front of me. I relish the idea of being able to restore her, however, the law being what it is, I cannot just do it myself. IS THIS A REALISTIC IDEA? If I cant do this, I'd rather sell her to an A&P that is looking to restore her, and I would walk away from her.

What I dont want is someone looking to buy a cheap airplane that they can put into the air using shortcuts and shoddy work, and having to read about it later on.

Any advice is appreciated, and thanks in advance.
