HI Ed,
Fred Was working on a twin when ERCO decided to shut down aircraft
production.... Called the ERCOACH,,,,page 226, From the Ground
Up, Weick;s autobiography.... " In the spring of 1941 I had made
some computations regarding a twin engine airplane that would have at least some
of the characteristics of the Ercoupe. For the next few months I worked, with
help from a couple of my young engineers at ERCO, to develop the new plane
concept". "December 7 stopped the project dead in its tracks. .....Some
excellent foreign born engineers had applied for work at ERCO in 1941 and 1942,
but because of wartime security considerations, we could not take them.....One
of these men was Dr. Felix Nagel..........FBI would not let ERCO to hire a
person in that situation"....
"We then formed another little company called Aircraft Development
Corporation....... As president, I hired Nagel....."
"The main activity of our Aircraft Development Corporation was to design
the ERCOACH....."
pages 226 thru 229...., 234, and 250.
Also see: page 69 of The Ercoupe, by Stanley Thomas.
Also see page 211 - 213 The Ercoupe, A Touch of Class, by
Saletri....for drawings, and Fred's comments.
and then, of course, the twin Ercoupe experimental where they bolted
two coupes together....at the center section stubs...
Yes, it is a shame they never were able to complete the Ercoach or the 4
place.......if they had, they would probably still be in business.
