Couper's: Nose gear shimmy can be caused by many things besides the tire.
And allowing the shimmy to continue only makes matters worse. Besides all the
things already mentioned, I have seen excessive play in the steering collar,
both up and down and around the nose gear casing. Play in the control column in
several areas, and play in the nose wheel steering linkages.
