I'm probably the last guy to figure this out, but, my airspeed indicator would not come off the peg at zero mph, twice on recent takeoff attempts. I cleaned the cap, lubricated the tiny hinge, and it seemed to be OK on several subsequent flights. Then it happened again. Today, I removed the protector cap (one tiny screw) and examined it with a magnifying glass under good light. The hinge pin - looks like an aluminum rivet - has worn about 1/4 to 1/3 through during 40 years of flying. That appears to have caused the hang ups. Fortunately, SPRUCE still sells these "widgets" @ $8.95. My pitot OD is 1/2 ", so I'll order Model No 2.
