After checking for intake leaks, which I assume you don't have, I would take the carb apart and carefully check the idle circuit. If your carburetor is a Stromberg carb, you will have to clean the two holes and passages around the idle adjustment screw. Screw has to come off for that.

Of course , this is a guess, but I am having similar problems and took the carb off twice already. The carb runs fine until dirt plugs the holes over again.

Subject: [COUPERS-TECH] Carb Heat Questions

----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----

I have a 415C. 75-12 with carb mod to 85HP. When the engine is cold, to start and run smooth, the carb heat must be applied at 1000 rpm and below. What is strange is with carb heat on the engine runs 75 rpm or so higher than with it off. After the engine warms up, carb heat works normally above 1000 rpm, ie, mag check. After flying, when on the ground and taxiing, it still behaves the same way, runs rough below 1000 rpm without carb heat on, and when activated still increases rpm slightly ?

Did this before and after carb overhaul.. Anyone ever have the same problem? John
