Hi all,
I have a 415C 74hp upgraded to an 85hp with the
larger venturi. On cold mornings the engine needs a little help to keep running.
My soution is not carb heat. What I do is use the primer as a choke and just
squirt a little into the carb once or twice and that seems to cure the startup
problem. However, after it warms up it's it runs just fine even during taxi. I
use to have what seemed to be a slightly rough engine during takeoff but it
would give me 2250 rpm so for a while I was not to concernd but finaly I decided
to pull and clean the plugs and found two of them with oblong center conductors.
Changed those two and now it really runs sweet. At 2300rpm am indicating 119mph.

I have a 415C. 75-12 with carb mod to 85HP.
When the engine is cold, to start and run smooth, the carb heat must be applied
at 1000 rpm and below. What is strange is with carb heat on the engine
runs 75 rpm or so higher than with it off. After the engine warms up, carb
heat works normally above 1000 rpm, ie, mag check. After flying, when on
the ground and taxiing, it still behaves the same way, runs rough below 1000 rpm
without carb heat on, and when activated still increases rpm slightly
?
Did this before and after carb overhaul..
Anyone ever have the same problem? John
