I fly IFR and never had a problem.  Perhaps (and only suggesting) it may be how "slippery" the windshield is.  I use a micro-fiber cloth and flight-jacket aircraft windshield cleaner.  Even the slightest drop of water quickly scoots off one direction or another from the prop blast.

I also noticed one other anomoly with the bubble windshield.  There is no forward visibility in the rain.  Even in a mild shower.  I got caught in one last summer and had to fly using gps and side visibility only.

I have heard the exact same thing before.  Perhaps in one of the articles I read online?

You are correct in your assumption that I have the bubble windshield.

Jason and Alan, a question:  Do you have the bubble windshield or the flat windshield?

(I have a theory that the flat windshield “flings” the slipstream up about four inches above the open window while the bubble windshield curves the slipstream around to be right even with the top of the window.)

I had about that 4” of space above where the windows normally would be – I could feel the edge of the slipstream by sticking my hand up when I was flying windows-open.

My hat never thought about departing my head in my plane – with the flat windshield.
