Guys.

I remember a while ago the discussion flat versus bubble was saying that the bubble was actually throwing the air higher , thus creating more drag.

I personally don't care. I would say yes to the statement that the flat windshield might be noisier because it is made from thinner material.

The extra dash space of the bubble is a good argument too.

What I don't like about the bubble windshield is the looks. It looks like not being part of the original design. One can tell. It is as if the Ercoupe has some frog eyes with it.

However, a lot of people like the bubble 'cause it makes the plane look more fighter plane like I think.

It depends all on your flying mission I guess.

Your the 3rd person to say the air flow over the flat windshield gives better airflow than the curved one. I'm not picking on anybody, but I'm confused....This may be the case to save ones hat, but from a drag point of view, would not "flinging" the air higher over the canopy opening cause more drag? I have a curved canopy and the slip stream is smooth from front to back just over the opening.......There is also very little "wind" noise in the cockpit.....I'm not one of those engineering types....so maybe someone can explain it better to me.....

I think flat windshields give the better air flow over the canopy... It
seems to throw it further above at least the front part of the canopy
opening. While that seems to be a nice plus for the flat windshield, I have
heard that the bubble windshield (being double curved) gives a less
distorted view. It has been reportedly a bit quieter as well because of it
being even more ridged than the flat screen. Another advantage could be
seen in the additional dash space created by the bubble windshield.

Does this all sound like reasonable observations?

I'm only pulling this together in this forum so future parties interested in
the differences could get some input to make decisions on (for example, they
may be pondering the advantages/disadvantages of converting their flat
screen to a curved screen).
