Ed is correct, Alan.  Most radio problems are connection problems.  Even in a hangar, the planes are "outside" so far as the metal is concerned.  Corrosion on the antenna and other connections makes all the difference.  Some times the "cure" is sliding the radio out of the rack and sliding it back in.  An ink eraser on the contacts sometimes does wonders.
