John,

I have read a few reviews on them too, and in general they were pretty positive.  I think that it is reliable as far as telling you if someone is real close to you (say within a mile or so), but it can evidently give some false or irrelevant alerts.  From what I read, it is very accurate in close, but not too accurate at longer ranges.  I think I can live with the extra warnings as long as it detects close traffic accurately.  After all, what do you do when you get a warning that turns out to be false or far away?  You look all around outside the airplane.  Since we're supposed to be doing that anyhow, I don't see it as a big negative.

Of course, if the target is not transponder equipped, the ATD can't detect it, and if the target is transponder equipped, but isn't being interrogated by ATC radar, the ATD can't detect it.

I'll post more about what I think of it after I fly with it for a while.

By the way, Monroy now has a more expensive unit out, and maybe one of your wealthier flying buddies will decide to upgrade to the new unit, and maybe that flying buddy will sell you his old ATD-200 for $100.00.    ;>)
