Ralph,

So, by your count, there are four posts about Coupe-specific technical
issues, one TEST post and two about aviation-specific-keeping GA flying.

Looking back further, I see 13 TECH messages that are specifically tech
subjects. I found five messages on the GA user fees (clearly marked in the
subject line) which are related to our ability to fly. Then there was your
message concerning list procedures.

That sounds like a pretty good percentage on-subject.

When we split the lists, we settled on trying to restrict social stuff and
non-aviation political stuff (which we discourage) to FLYIN.

All the stuff you mention is on-topic.

Ralph,

I've got to agree that it's a lot more polite for people to trim their
responses, quoting just the items needed. Usually, I quote nothing or just
enough. In this response, I've quoted you more completely than I usually
would.

I don't agree that TECH was ever a purely technical list - not at any time.
We allowed aviation related discussions, aviation-specific politics,
Coupe-tech, aircraft mechanical and flying technique.

It doesn't look to me like we need to have the list moderated. I'm not
seeing very many off-topic postings.

May I suggest that we strongly encourage people to make sure the subject
matches the contents, changing the subject as needed.

Then you can simply not read the subjects in which you are not interested.
Heck, I only read about 1/2 of the message traffic on TECH - I discriminate
based on the subject line.

Forcing moderation on every message would impose a delay of from minutes to
hours to a day before a posted message popped up on the list. We are not
having a problem worth that penalty.

Please, just look at the subject line and don't read what you don't want to
read.
