We were discussing how well our 'coupes could deal with a water landing...

Well, it happened Friday afternoon.

From KGW.com website:
=====================

Two people swim away safely from small plane down in Case Inlet 05/20/2006 Associated Press

A small plane went down in the Case Inlet area of Puget Sound late Friday
afternoon, but the two people on board made it to shore and appeared to be
unharmed.
Television news helicopters showed one of the passengers being towed to
shore by a kayaker. The other apparently swam ashore.
Once on dry land, the men were carried away in a small cart being pulled by
a tractor. Family members were waiting as the two men came out of the water.
They were evaluated by medical personnel near the private air strip.
A regional supervisor for the Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot
was trying to land on a small airstrip near the crash site when he radioed
that he'd lost power.
Firefighters marked the position of the 1946 Ercoupe 415-C with a buoy. FAA
Investigators will study the plane once it is pulled from the water. Pierce
County Sheriff's deputies were expected to go to the scene Saturday and
figure out how to recover the plane. It was not known where it had taken off from.
Case Inlet is at the southern end of Puget Sound, and separates the Key
Peninsula near Tacoma from Hartstene Island and the rest of Mason County to
the west.
