That makes for an additional amount of oil circulating the engine, thus additional weight.
 
Don you are lucky. Your blowby problem settles at 4 quarts. With the filter mounted, you are providing the extra half quart needed to satisfy the manufacturers recommendation.
Then on the other hand you are right, in that combination, there's not much weight increase.
But that's not how is being measured for a W&Balance calculation

Thanks, Hartmut. I wasn't aware that my horizontally installed filter remained filled after shutdown. My experience seems to differ, i.e., after an oil and filter change, I add exactly 4 qts. If I put 1/2 qt into the filter prior to installing it, then I put only 3 1/2 qts in the sump. My blowby problem disappears when I have 3 1/2 qts or less in my sump. Thus, it appears that the oil in my filter (whether it is poured in prior to installation, or sucked in after engine start) doesn't add any weight  -  or does it?
