A friend with a 415C had a problem with the smell of fuel in the cockpit and found out that the fuel tank gauge sight glass gasket in the left hand fuel tank was leaking fuel down inside the fuselage wall and into the belly. A new gasket or two fixed the problem.
Might be worth taking a look there too.
