----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----I hesitate to appear to take issue with the largely positive reviews for LIGHTSPEED headsets on this string. Nevertheless, I feel obliged to re-state my own experience. A year ago I purchased a LIGHTSPEED 20XLc, and used it in my ALON , always with the canopy closed. It was a well made and comfortable headset, yet I had difficulties in transmissions to the tower and other aircraft, particularly at lower altitudes, e.g., 1500' - 2000', 15 mi from airport. They reported excessive noise. Fellow pilots here fly open cockpit Stearmans and Police helicopters. They reported similar problems with LIGHTSPEEDS. Factory technicians confirmed that they were aware of such problems in high ambient noise environments, including my (closed-canopy) ALON. They told me about the tiny gain adjustment screw on the outside face of the lip mike, and even sent me a leather "boot" to put over my foam boot. Neither of these helped. Finally, I requested a return for credit - no hassle. I then purchased a DAVID CLARK H10-13x ANR HEADSET, for 145 dollars more than the LIGHSPEED headset. My problems went away. I have been using the DAVID CLARK for the past 5 months with absolutely no problems (my passenger uses a non - ANR, older David Clark). I do not dispute other Coupers' experiences with their LIGHTSPEEDS; they are a well made and reasonably priced item.
