I recently started my 85 Continental and quickly
found I did not have oil pressure. After an examination by my AI it was
discovered that the oil pump had lost its prime. Re-primed everything went back
to normal. My AI says he has seen a number of the small Continentals do this,
some with high hours, others with low hours. This engine has less than 120 hours
total since major. What is the reason for this happening and what does
Continental say about it? I had never heard of it until it happened. My AI says
it never happens with the engine running, only on start up, and will ruin the
engine if not shut down. The engine had been flown only several days before, and
is usually flown twice a week. Fred Fowler.
