It was 87 degrees yesterday when I went out to fly from Coupland, TX
to Lake Travis in Austin on a general 1.5 hour fly-about. Me and my
friend Lee and about 12 gallons of fuel made the journey after using a
few "cloud roads" and dark fields to gain altitude... about 3,000
feet.

During the climb at full power for about 15 minutes, the oil
temperature stayed below 180 degrees. After an hour, at level
atitude, we got to 200 degrees... it was now 95 degrees over the Texas
Hill Country. We never went over 200. In lower ambient heat
conditions, carrying me on and 8 gallons of fuels I was tipping 240
degrees consistently. What changed?

First, complete sealing of all the engine baffles using high
temperature silicone. Next, a tube to blow air down to the oil sump
and spin on filter, and last a cool collar (the spin on filter adapter
was the first fix which was tried and it worked pretty well giving
about 5 degrees of relief without a collar).

Thanks to everyone who suggested these, and a few other ideas which I
might try. You are great!

John
