Hey Kim: Welcome to the Ercoupe world. I believe the piece you are
referring to is structural, but it can be replaced. Forney changed the seating
arrangement to two bucket seats, and several people have put in Cessna seats. So
it certainly is possible. I would recommend talking to your local FSDO folks,
explaining what you want to do, and get some advice as to how to proceed.
