Pan, Pan, Pan...
Can anyone help me determine which Univair parts might actually fit
the main landing gear on our Mooney M10 Cadet? And if Univair's parts
don't, where we might get some that do? We don't need anything major
-- just bushings, washers, O-rings, etc.
A related question: Does anyone know the whereabouts of drawings or
manuals for the Alons?
According to the M10 Service Manual (from Univair) the standard Cadet
had spring steel main gear; trailing link gear was an option. I don't
know how many Cadets had the "optional" gear, but ours does. I like
it - it makes for marvelous landings - but there's not a peep about
it in either of Univair's M10 manuals*. So I bought one of Univair's
Ercoupe Parts Catalogs. The good news is that there's a diagram
(Figure 12) that resembles the gear we actually have. But there are
differences: Figure 12 calls out Bakelite bushings at the knee joint,
but ours are bronze; Figure 12 says the lower MLG leg is part number
415-33203, but the number stamped on ours is 415-33202. Et cetera.
Any information will be appreciated. Per Univair's Ercoupe Parts
Catalog, here are the part numbers corresponding to the items we're
looking for:
o 415-33209 Knee joint pin
o 415-33206 Knee joint bushing
o 415-33215 Knee joint washers (catalog says
"Bakelite"; ours are some sort of fiber)
o 415-33201-19 Knee joint lock washer
o 415-33239 Bushings at upper and lower oleo strut anchor points
o 415-33225-1 O-ring at bottom of piston
(This is also listed as an AN6227-17; don't
know if there's anything "special" about it.)
Thanks.

* OK, I exaggerate. The M10 Service Manual actually says this much:
"The optional main gear oleo shock struts have seven Belleville taxi
springs. A knee joint and the oleo strut attachments connect the
upper and lower gear legs. Rudder [sic] bumper pads and bumper blocks
protect the strut from damage by knee-joint contact upon strut
extension. Have a nice day." (Just kidding. It doesn't really say
"have a nice day". :)
