I think there should be an exclusive Club.

Remember 99893, my First Ercoupe endured the same fate, and has since been
repaired and flying for almost 15 years in Lithuania.

  Mark,

  It's great that you're OK!

I had brake failure after touchdown about 15 years ago but I got lucky. My
runway was long but paved and I was still going about 30-35 at the far end,
looking at the fence. I went for a U-turn, hoping my wide gear would keep us
safe and we made the turn inside the side fence, in the weeds with no damage.

In my case, the Goodyear brakes popped a clip and in my case just gave me no
braking. (As I understand it, when this happens that brake often (usually?)
locks the wheel and causes a precipitous stop.)

I subsequently learned that very good maintenance is necessary on Goodyear
brakes and someone said it's worth putting in new clips to replace the 40-60
year old clips.

Could you please tell us, when you find out, what brake type you had and the
cause of the brake loss? Let's pass the info on to help others.

I hope you had full coverage hull insurance. It doesn't do anything for the
pain of losing a beautiful friend (albeit a mechanical one) and rarely covers
the costs of replacement. But insurance can keep you among the community of
those who fly and own and cherish beautiful planes.

  Best wishes,
