This may be a stretch, but if the tanks are a bit tan on the inside, could it
just be a good coating of alodine or is there stuff flaking off?

Ed,

The plane is STC'd for auto fuel. I used one or two tankfulls of autofuel
back in the 80's. Other than that, I have always used AvGas (80 when you could
get it, 100LL now). I use only 100LL now.

  Best Regards,

  Wayne,

I wouldn’t be surprised if Alon Aircoupes came from the factory with a brown
coating inside the fuel tanks, but I have no knowledge of such a coating. In
this I’m completely ignorant.

This gives us a count of 2 out of 2 Alons with the brown coating. Anyone
else know anything?

Wayne, do you use Autofuel or just 100LL?

  Ed

  Hi Ed.

My Alon has some sort of brown colored coating within all the tanks, and I
don't think any of the tanks have ever been removed. It would seem that an
adequate "slosh" coating would be difficult with the tanks still on the
airframe! Once in a while, if the airplane sits for a period of time (a month)
it will show some impurities in the test sample, but only small flecks, and I'm
not so sure it is the sloshing compound. I have run a good deal of fuel
through that puppy, and I have never experienced any fuel clog problem, only
fuel problem I have experienced was with a fuel deficiency due to air in the
fuel delivery line.
