Here in Kansas, and in most of the states I have recently visited,
service stations are no longer required to post notice that their fuel
contains alcohol. I used to purchase auto gas at the Kwik Trip because
they have a good reputation for quality control. About six months ago,
after testing some of their regular grade, I found alcohol. I spoke
with the manager of the Kwik Trip and he said the corporate decision
was to start blending 10% alcohol at the pipe line terminal. But they
decided not to post that on the pump because the law no longer requires
it. The alcohol blend is currently quite a bit cheaper to produce. I
then tested fuel at most of the other local stations and found alcohol
in all the fuel. None of the pumps were posted regarding alcohol. I
almost gave up until I found out that Shell has a corporate policy of
posting alcohol content. I called Shell headquarters and spoke with
one of their engineers. He advised me that currently none of their
stations in Kansas sell gasoline containing alcohol. I then found a
Shell station about 10 miles from my home and I have been buying
gasoline there since then. No alcohol.
