Greetings! I currently am looking at purchasing an Ercoupe that will probably need to restoration to get it into flyable shape. This would be the 1st plane I have ever owned, having only rented in the past. Well, a lightbulb just clicked off in my head. I was thinking of doing alot of the restoration myself, but I just remembered that as a pilot, I'm pretty much limited to doing preventive maintainence. So legally speaking, can only a A&P do a restoral? Originally, I was thinking that I would do the work, and have an A&P sign off on the work, but now I'm thinking that won't work.
So can I restore my own plane, or that's only for the "pros"?
