Tandy,
If you put a patch on the nose bowl, put it on the back side so only
the rivet heads show. You could even put in flush-head rivets and fill
the crack with body putty and paint the nose bowl, which might hide the
whole job. Welding is an option, but, remember, welding sets up
stresses in the metal which will cause more cracks later.

Guys - Good News. I managed to get the Grimes lens out of the fixture
to replace the bulb. The tool of choice was a kitchen jar opener with
an expandable strap- sort of like a strap oil filter remover. Thanks
to all who provided suggestions on how to do it.
Bad News - much to my surprise after my flight to Beaumont Hotel in
south central Kansa last week I noticed a crack in the nose bowl of my
455C. The crack starts from the air inlet below the prop and extends
about two inches. I stop crack drilled a hole to prevent the crack
from spreading further.
Question: What is the best way to fix the crack? Choices seem to be
(1) Remove entire nose bowl and have the crack welded shut and then
ground down; (2) Rivet a reinforcing pad over the crack which
would look ugly; (3) Find a new nose bowl. Any other suggestions?
Tandy
