Frank sent pictures to the forum yesterday and also asked me to post them in
the forum's photo section. Here's my response and it may be of interest to
  everyone. -Ed

  Frank,

Since photos can be enormous and we have limited space, we had limited
  uploading to moderators.

A .jpg photo that is 750kb can be compressed down to 50-100kb. First, it's
important to set the size to how it should be viewed, such as 10" wide by
whatever and SET THE PIXELS PER INCH TO 72, the resolution of monitors (more
or less). Then, do "save as" and choose quality level from 0 to 3. This
really saves space on the hard drive and greatly improves download speed.

Your files weren't too enormous but they did reduce a fair amount. Here are
  the comparisons in kb:
  Photo Original reduced
  01 99 60
  02 128 69
  03 139 76
  04 138 71
  05 165 86 contrast reduced, image lightened
  06 181 109 contrast reduced, image lightened
  07 110 69

I compressed those photos you sent and posted them. Good ones. Thanks.

Ah, phooey! Having gone to all that trouble and explained it all and
uploaded them, I find that Yahoo has an automatic program that takes the
photos and resizes and compresses them anyway. So none of what I wrote
about size applies to the Yahoo website's photo albums.

Still, it does apply to posting pictures on the forum. Better to put them
in the album than to send them to everyone in a message - doubly so if they
  haven't been already resized.

Exception: if the Yahoo resizing program takes out so much detail out of
the photo album pictures that the critical information can't be seen. Even
so, if your photo sizes are bigger than 100k and you can't resize them,
PLEASE send them to me first and I'll resize them and send them back to you
for you to post. I can usually do this for you within a day.

I've changed the photo access to allow members to upload pictures. (Don't
worry about size when uploaded to the forum's photo section.) For now, I
keep a review process and approve all photos before Yahoo actually posts
them. (That'll prevent mischievous posting of improper material.)

Please be sure to post social photo, such as flyin photos, on the flyin
  website.

Remember that everyone can view, use and modify the links in the links
  section.

  Ed
