Skyport sells the kit that replaces the linkage. It replaces the steering rod
and puts a bearing and a bolt to where the ball and socket connector is now.
The old style ball connector is the weak part in that assembly. It can break
without warning and is hard to test. But not many seem to have broken, there is
no AD for replacing it.
I exchanged my over 50 year old one with a brand new piece from Skyport for
less than 10 bucks.
However spending the extra $150 or so seems to be a good advice.

My linkage from the cabin to the nose gear is a ball and socket connector
arrangement. An old timer having over 3000 hours in a coupe told me to replace
it soon, as it is a weak link and will ruin my day if it breaks. Anybody have
knowledge of a good replacement?

I just "knew" that putting a forked front wheel on my Coupe would solve my
shimmy problems after we could not find any loosness. We put new bearings in
also. Sadly it didn't seem to make any difference. What did make a big
difference was a good tire balance, proper inflation and pilot training. The 75
inch tail heigth keeps the plane on the ground. I had trained in a "tail low"
Coupe and when I bought one with the 75 inch tail heigth I tended to put some
foreward pressure on the control. This put more weight on the front tire and
caused some shimmy. Keeping the control in more or less a neutral position
works for me. Mike @C35--- In [email protected], Hartmut Beil

[ercoupe-tech] nose wheelImportance: Low> > > > > GroupI am a new a owner of a
415C. It was just deliverd yesterday. It came with a fresh annual in which the
nose gear bearing was replaced. It still has a great deal of wobble and is very
annoying landing and taking off. Aircraft is located in Port Charlotte,
Florida. I am seeking an experienced ercoup Mechanic or place to take it. It
has a single fork which is the way I would like to keep it. Any Suggestions
would be appreciated.ThanksThurman PangburnN-3667> > > > > > > > > _______
