A new one might be 0.020 or better, but I'm not sure.  John can probably tell 
you.  If I remember correctly though, they only cost about $10.00 so it might 
not be a bad idea to get a couple.
 
I don't think that you could cut one and put it in without delaminating it or 
messing up the edge where it is cut.  Better to just take the strut apart and 
put it in like it's supposed to be.  At the same time you could check for 
other worn parts.
