The original (1941) paint scheme was the word ERCOUPE painted on the cowls in red, followed by a red stripe that went all the way down the fuselage to the tail. This was continued into early 1946, when the demand for planes got so great that the factory didn't want to put paint on each plane, so they substituted the emblem on the cowls with no stripe. The plane was bare aluminum until about 1948, when the demand was slim, and the factory supplied painted planes to make them more attractive.
