Alan,
I have the AvMap GeoPilot model of GPS -- and like it very much (at
half the price of a Garmin to do the same things). I have not seen
their EKP-IV, but if their dimensions are similar, you may be
interested in how I mounted mine, with no mounting device required.
The nice folks at AvMap sent me some industrial-strength 3M-type
velcro (it is made up of tiny plastic mushroom shapes that interlock
even more strongly than regular velcro). I put some on the back of
the GeoPilot, and some on the front of my pilot-side glovebox cover,
tucking the ends of the latter strips around the edge of the glovebox
cover, after loosening the screws a tad, then tightened them down so
that the ends of the strips were securely trapped. The GeoPilot is
so thin that it mounts perfectly on the face of the glovebox cover,
and rides happily right behind my yoke, without interfering with it
at all. Then I run the cords up across the top of my panel (glare-
shield someone called it, I think), and behind that center metal bar
that vertically bisects the bubble windshield. The little square
thing that needs to see the satellites sits on the top, and the power
cord keeps on going over to the right side of my panel, tucks to the
side of the cabin heat knob, and then into the cig. lighter. This
way, it is "mounted," but fully removable, and didn't require cutting
into anything. I like being able to remove it and take it with me
when I leave the plane somewhere; since the 'Coupe is so easy to
break into, I don't like to leave anything valuable in it. I've been
using it this way for just over a year, and am very happy with the
set-up.

Can an AVMAP EKP-IV be mounted with the Air Gizmos panel mounting
device be legally installed in a coupe?
If the power cord is routed behind the panel and comes up from
underneath the panel to plug into the cigrette lighter adaptor on the
front of the panel?
Any bad experiences with this GPS?
