Richard, Welcome to the ranks of Ercoupe Owners. (Owners aren't inherently better people than non-owners, but they usually get to fly Ercoupes more and that's a good thing.)
You've done an excellent job of looking into and evaluating the situation. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get the letter Bill suggested from the FSDO guy. I'd suggest you ask for it to be worded that "a review of the records shows the plane is and has always been model 415-CD." Hope you have bunches of great flying years. Ed
