Dan (and All),
When I first bought my 'Coupe, I also initially encountered a $20,000
"barrier" with AIG, and the agent said there was no way to over-ride
that, he'd been up through all the underwriting channels, it was all
done by Blue Book (which is years out of date), etc.. Then I went to
AOPA Expo (Palm Springs), got a "no problem!" quote from the AVEMCO
booth (at the hull limits I wanted), and picked up a copy of the then-
current classified ads for Ercoupes (I think it was Barnstormers or
one of the other papers), and walked over to the AIG booth. I asked
if they'd like to see why they would be losing a customer. They
introduced me to a V.P. of Underwriting who was present, and I showed
him the ads, and explained the rapid rise in LSA-legal Ercoupes'
prices. Then I invited him to walk out to the LSA display area,
shout "LSA-legal Ercoupe for $25,000" and prepare to be mobbed. He
understood, agreed to the hull coverage amount I'd been struggling to
get, gave me his card, and said to have my agent contact him
directly. I got the coverage. Contact me off-list if you'd like my
agent's contact info, or that VP's name.

AVEMCO is who I use and someone said AIG did also. I don't think it
is Ercoupes that they
balk at so much as LSA....at least that's what they told me. AVEMCO
was the only one I
found that would insure for $30,000. Others wouldn't go above $20,000.
