Kevin,

It sounds to me that the oil tank is probably a larger tank than original...ie: from a C-90 or 0-200//// . The later tanks will fit onto the engine, and alllow more capacity..(not Needed), but the larger tank can/would interfer with the originial gascolater fittings.....

Other thoughts:

? Is the tank on the engine backwards, with the oil filler on the passenger side ? (it can be insatalled this way)

Is it a lager capacity tank.? Original was a 4 qt capacity...and only the dip stick needed to be marked to make it suitable for C-85 Conversion  to 4.5 qts.

Is installation of a short straight pipe from the el to the gascolater possible ?

BE sure to install the gascolater support brackets as required in the AD.

You sure do not want it touching the oil tank...excess heating of the fuel, vapor lock occuring, eventiuially leaks in the tank, etc, etc, etc,

Kevin,
    1.  What did it look like before it came apart?
    2.  What does your mechanic say about this, or are you doing this all by yourself?  This is a certificated airplane, you know, not a homebuilt.
    3.  No, don't ding anything.

46' 415-C with a C-85.
I was putting the gasolator on my engine today and ran into an
interesting problem.
The gasolator is bumping the oil-tank just enough that I can't get the
carb. mounted back up properly.
I have the 90 degree elbow mounted on the back of the carb. screwed in
as far as it can go and it clears there.
I also have the straight connector screwed onto the 90 degree elbow
with no problems.
But when I screw the gasolator on and try to tighten the carb. back up
onto the engine the gasolator hits the oil-tank.
It seems that the 90 degree elbow needs to go into the back of the
carb. more to move the gasolator forward just a hair but this isn't
possible.

Can anyone explain whats going on and how to fix this?

I'm going to catch a lot of grief for asking this question ......is it
acceptable to ding the oil-tank a hair for gasolator clearance?

Kevin
