Coupers,

Here is the info that I promised. The group in S.D. is called the Vanguard
Squadron.
They are based in the Sioux Falls/Tea area. They started this in 1993 and are
flying
  4 RV3's and 1 RV8.

According to 1 of the owner/pilots, using 100% Ethanol the advantages are:

  1. More power
  2. Cooler operating temps
3.Longer engine life, due to cooler operating
  5. They can burn 100%, E85 and pure Av gas

He stated that the fuel burn economy runs 10 to 15% more than AV gas.
Cost of a gallon of 100% is $1.80. If my Alon burns 6 gph of 100 LL then 15%
more is .9 gallon.

  6 gal at $4.75 is $28.50
  6.9 gal of 100% ethanol at $1.80 is $12.42

Travelling cross country does pose a problem for them untill E85 or 100%
becomes
available at airports across the country. This is why they must use 100LL
  on occasion.

They have a website if anyone would like more info.

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

When I say 100% pure, it is really 97% pure ethanol due to the denaturing. The
government requires denaturing so noone can drink it.

I hope this is informative. He also gave me the name and ph. number of a
fellow at
  S. D. State Univ. who was instrumental in the conversion of their engines.
And Yes,
I forgot to ask what engines they are using. Maybe their web will say.
