I have the Ercoupe that was the prototype for the Sky-Tec starter. To install it does require removal of a guide-pin in the engine -- if you look at the www.skytecair.com website, you can find the installation details on this airplane --
I have also done this on an O-200 for a experimental cubby that I own -- it's really not that tough to use a dremmel cut-off wheel and some modeling clay to block the debris.
