We seem to being going around in circles on what can or cannot be put in the panel of an Ercoupe. A lot of people are reference FAR part 23 to backup their argument or other FAA regulations. However, the Ercoupe does not seem to be governed by FAA regulations. If I understand this correctly (that is always a big IF), the Ercoupe is governed by CAA regulations. If you go back and look at the type certification documentation you will find this: Certification basis -- Part 4a of the Civil Air Regulations. If you go to the following web link, you will find that the FAA lists the "Regulation Basis - CAR 4a."

Does that make any sense? Frank Nelson N51DV - 415C (certified under CAR 4a) TOA
