Tom,
Now that's a great question. Keep in mind the Gizmo was created on the theory
that you don't have to hand hold or want the Garmin on the yoke. In all
reality the Gizmo makes the Garmin a permanent installation. If the Gizmo
theory
would work legally we could virtually put anything on the panel. but would that
make the installation a portable unit (like cigarette lighter plug in's)
I have the Garmin 496 with a Gizmo mount. As far as I'm concerned it's as
permanent as any of the other avionics. Furthermore my transceiver is removable
easier then the Garmin. Does that make my transceiver portable? Maybe it must
have a battery in it to be considered portable. WOW! This could be the loop
hole or are we opening up a new bag of worm. Do all plug-in portable units have
to be approved? I personally feel that anything you can move from one place to
another is portable.
With a little male/female set up we possibly may put anything gizmo'd into
our panel, including the electric oven, We can go ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON..
But it may be worth while to investigate.
