Dave Aside all the good tips, I found one relative reliable indicator for engine trouble. That is sudden higher engine temperatures. If your engine merrys along usually with 180 -200 degrees and then suddenly goes redline, there's is something calling for attention. In some cases, the problem can be isolated and sometimes even be repaired. (Blowby at pistons, sticky valves ) Hartmut

It is 63 years old. Look's like it had a top overhaul at some point. It seems to use more gas than it did a few years ago, but compressions are all good. I intend to keep flying so long as it keeps running sweetly. SO, What are the impending failure signs for which I need to watch? Any advice?
