I just rebuilt the struts and knee joints in my 'coupe. Too much to
type up, but if you call, I can give you the lowdown at (316) 755-
3337. Got new seal kits from John at Skyport for the struts, and honed
the cylinders. Replace all phenolic parts in knee joints, and
installed grease zerks - all, again, a kit from John at Skyport.
Things to think about- when knee joint is apart, you can't jack as
normal in the knee joint pin tube, so how do you safely jack up the
wing far enough to drop the trailing arm to the limit? I modified a
platform-type transmission scissor jack I got from Harbor Freight. -
$49.95 -Worked great and solid as a rock, and no danger to
wing/airframe. Another thing was how to you reinsert the strut seal
back into the strut cylinder (- not easy!) - used rolled up SS shim
stock to make a "guide" down thru the top of the cylinder assembly till
it got to the actual bore of the cylinder, then get the seal in there,
and keep it in the cylinder bore while you work the rolled up shim
material back out - man, that is a real trial! PS - mine is later-
style gear (ser. no. 800-something up)
