I have a fair amount of movement (slop) in the yokes left and right
before the ailerons move. I am sure this is an age thing but how much
is too much? Is this yoke movement a safety issue (i.e., wear is
significant)?

I suspect the universal joints are a bit worn and/or maybe rod end
bearings or some combo. Any suggestions on where to start to improve
things?

One mechanic suggested going a head and replacing the two universals
and all the rod bearings to eliminate the issue (better to improve the
whole system than do it piecemeal). I am overhauling my C-85 soon and
want to address this issue while the airplane is in the shop.

Any suggestions are appreciated!
