Thanks to all for all your suggestions addressing my bellcrank problems. The bottom line is that the original design did not address the excessive clearance between the Heim ballbearing and the inside cheeks of the bellcrank. This caused the Heim ball to pivot around the bolt in stead of the bearing boss causing the bolt to wear. I found by adding a very thin washer wedgeing the ball took care of the excessive clearance. I was therefore able to tighten the castle nut clamping the ball without springing or deforming the bellcrank casting. One thing , though. On the left side only I had to grind a couple of threads on the bottom of the bolt so it would clear the bellcrank mount. I also had to leave out the nut washer so as to allow for cotter key installation. Every thing seems to work ok and all play seem to have been removed. Tomorrow I will reinstall the wings after a thorough inspection for corrosion. Thee years ago I fogged the whole plane with ACF 50 so I do not expect any. Sorry about the length of this post but it may save some one a lot of headaches. Thanks again guys, Ed N3396H
