After I posted information about CGS Aviation getting the first ever SLSA approval for a light, low-cost SLSA of the "ultralight" persuasion (i.e. designed like the substantial "ultralight trainers"), Prof. Ed asked:
Are you a partner in this business? Good question. The answer is: no. In fact the kit I'm building is from CGS's biggest competitor, QCU Ultralights, and I give my primary loyalty to QCU. But CGS is one of the very reputable companies in the industry. I'd not hesitate a moment to buy any of their products. CGS planes are reputed to be well behaved, strong and designed to better accomodate the more substantial pilots (useful load 532 lb.). QCU doesn't yet have any SLSA model though we keep encouraging the owner to develop one. If I owned a Sport Pilot training business, I'd seriously consider the CGS SLSA as part of the fleet. I'm not trying to sell these, but it's good for us to keep informed on the industry. A lot of us are in the PP flying as SP category, not to mention a few newly minted Sport Pilots. Ed
