Percy. The cheapest way to get more take off power is to have the prop
repitched to a climb pitch.
Depending on propeller and prop-shop, you are looking at $50 to a few hundreds.

Second option is the conversion to a 85 hp engine. Here you might have to
change the trim tab installation on some Ercoupes.
That sets you back a few hundreds, then some prop/ C-85 combinations require to
add the cooling baffles around the oil kidney, the set is around $ 750 I
believe.
With that price by the way, not many C-85 owners in a Coupe care for these
extra baffles. Some invented their own version, only one 337 that I know of
here.
Plus the carburetor ventury change for around 100 bucks the ventury and around
fifty for the bigger jet:

And of course you need to trim down your propeller in size, and have it
repitched, but I understand that had been done so before.

>From my point of view, I see the horse power win in a C-85 to be marginal. The
>bigger ventury allows the engine to run faster. Then , and only then the 10

>power curve as the C-75. The perceived power gain is that the C-85 with a
>shorter prop acts in a way like a flatter pitched C-75 prop.

So, either way, you will need a flat pitched prop for more ummph.

The most expensive option would be to install an aeromatic propeller. That
would give you a good climb and a satisfying cruise.
That route sets you back close to 5k Dollars I believe.

  Subject: [ercoupe-tech] Re(visited): 75 to 85 costs

Lots of good info, Sports Fans, but not `zac'ly what I needed. I'm
interested in the costs for getting more take off ooompf. Options:
  * RATO (they did that in 1941)
  * Upgrage to the 85 HP motor per Continental publication.
  * Repitch prop (it is 7150).
HOW is not as important as How Much.
