Pro:  Float fuel gauges are very reliable.

 

Con:  Due to the shape of the tank and its tilt on the wing (due to
dihedral), the float gauge on the filler cap only measures the top 1/3-1/2
of the fuel.  It doesn’t measure the more important bottom ½ of the fuel
level.
