  Subject: [ercoupe-tech] MLG Questions

I am about to undertake an overhaul of my MLG due to play at the knee
joint. I will be pulling the entire gear to inspect it and replace the
  needed parts. So some ques4tons.

  1. What causes the excessive play in the knee joint. Is it mainly a worn
knee joint bushing, or the washers, or both?

I would guess BOTH, since you are referring to exessive play.

  2. The kneew pin, the one that costs 250 bucks a pop--do they have to
be replaced, or can you usually get away with new lockwashers and nuts?

It depends on the pin that you have. If it is pitted from corrosion and worn,
you better replace that. Better to loose $250 now, then 10000 later when you
groundloop.

  3. How tight does the knee pin nut have to be?

Just tight, dont clamp the gear together, especially when it is from forged
aluminum.

  4. How does one remove the knee joint pin without damaging the threads?

Open safty washer behind the nut and unscrew nuts.

  5. What are the bolts that hold the leg to the spar...the ones with
allen heads? I can find no reference to them in the parts manual.

No idea. May John from Skyport knows

  6. I have already added the collar to raise the tail, but any other
  tips would be appreciated.

A different taxi spring in the nose gear would bring the tail up too. There
used to be a shorter one for the 6inch nose wheel installation. I don't know if
that would be still available. If so. I want one too.

  Thanks
