Well put Erik:
I couldn't agree more with your statements concerning the capabilities of
the Ercoupe as a good cross country machine! I have also had my Coupe over
18K' and still had a good TAS.

I fly from KTWF in Southern Idaho. I take cupcake all over the
Western states and can easily get over 11,000' fully loaded. I have a
C85 and run it full throttle everywhere. Every year for Fathers Day I
go to the Smiley Creek fly in with my honey and young son and can take
off from the 7000'+ elevation grass strip and climb over the 9500'
mountains nearby to head south. Yeah the climb rate is low- but the
plane can do it! I think cupcake holds the Ercoupe altitude record
(class A airspace) when a friend and I flew down the Owens valley in
CA earlier this year. Point being is the Ercoupe is a capable X-C
plane if you don't mind stopping each 4 hours.
