Thanks for the tip Daniel, but the pressure release valve was completely redone with the oil pump re-build.

I have a C75 1000+SMOH done 30 years ago. When I bought the plane 4 months ago I experienced the same behavior. Changing oil to 100W added few lbs and the pressure gauge was a couple lbs low too. But the problem was really solved when my mechanic took the pressure valve piston off and sent it to a rectifying shop. The seat was machine leaped. Now I have 120+ on start up in a cold day. Cruise pressure after a 1hr+ trip is 35lbs rock solid. Idle pressure is 20lbs. Good luck! Was still below 30lbs, so replaced the pressure guage with a new and and came up another couple lbs. Finally had the accessory case removed and took the oil pump in to an engine re-builder and had the pump overhauled. Was told that the bushings were in need of replacement and the cover was a bit warped. Brought it up another couple of lbs. Supposedly a common problem in the C65-90hp Continentals and either would cause a loss of some pressure as the oil warmed. So, now the engine runs in the lower end of the green, but I'm there! The temp stays at about 100deg about the ambient temp, so that is good. Even though the engine only has 360SMOH, it was done 20 years ago so I suspect that could have been a problem. Anyway, I now plan to change oil every 25hrs, send a sample in for metals > check, and of course, keep an eye on the oil temp and pressure as always,,,, > > Suggestion, if you are buying a coupe, make sure you get the aircraft flying > for about 30 minutes. My engine started and ran-up with great pressure and then would only gradually drop pressure after 20 minutes of flying. Didn't even show up at the annual. Now I have close to 2K in repairs and probably will wind up with an overhaul well before TBO.... Don't you just love airplanes! :^) > > Craig Peterson > N87018 > #191 > > > > ----- Original Message ---- > From: cpetemn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: [email protected] > Sent: Monday, June 23, 2008 3:34:09 PM > Subject: [ercoupe-tech] oil pressure > > > As I've flown my C-85 coupe more these hot days, I have noted that when I > first start the engine, oil pressure is in the 30-40 lb range. Then after I am at cruise, it runs at about 21 lbs or in the middle of the caution range. I asked my a&p and he thinks it probably has to do with the multi-vis oil warming up and the ranges were set long before multi-viscosity was available. He also has another customer with a C-75 coupe that runs in the same range. So what oil pressure does your coupe sit at when cruising? > > Craig Peterson > N87018 > #191 > > btw, solved the brake problem where the pedal needed adjustment and was > binding a bit. >
