Percy. The U-Joints on the yokes do not contribute to shimmy problems. But I
noticed too that several thousand flying hours wear them and replacement is
advisable.Univair sells them for a premium.

I found other places that produce joints of exactly the same dimensions and
they sell them for less than a hundred.Someone told me that Univair charges
premium for the two tapered holes they are putting in the joint. The cheaper
U-joints come without the tapered hole. My solution to the problem? I swapped
out the U-joint from the pilots to the passenger side - it is rare that the
passengers participate in flying. Hartmut

...as opposed to clip joints... :-)A chum is looking at his Ercoupe nose wheel
shimmy and has tracked most of it down to a loose rod end bearing. He is now
looking at the U-joints at the "T" that connect to the yokes. He would like to
replace them, but is unsure of a supplier. Any ideas? Also - one person
suggested removing the taper pins with a rivet gun (and lots of WD-40). Has any
one tried this?Percy in NM, USA
