Hey Eliacim: I got a field approval about two months ago for putting the
split elevator on a C model. I had done it several times, and included previous

approvals as reference, so it was not problem. However, I had not been able to
get approval for non TSO items in the past.

Ed asked if the FAA would sign a 337 for non TSO'd position lights. My A&P /
IA says the FAA is "not approving" field approvals, meaning that since a
couple years on, it has been hard to get field approvals accepted by the FAA.
What has been the experience of the forum members with recent field
approvals?

Dan,

Perhaps the problem is in finding TSO wingtip nav lights using LEDs.

Try these:

(http://www.whelen.com/aviation/catalog/Position%20Light%20Assemblies.pdf) or

Kuntzleman makes a nice set of them, but his are not TSOed.

FAA to sign off on a form 337 for using non-TSOed position lights?
