I saw a long discussion about whether a Private Pilot acting under privileges of a Sport Pilot can do the allowed pilot maintenance tasks. I never saw a definitive answer. A telling point was, you are a private pilot even without a medical and there's no requirement for a medical when you are on the ground doing maintenance. But, still, I did not see a definitive resolution of this question.
