I used a Garmin 90 for 10 years with no problems until it couldn't be updated any longer in 2003-4.
Bought a Lowrance 2000c in 2006 with large 5" screen but didn't fly for a couple years. Nice color display; in 2008 I sent it back to the factory 3X, once for a battery problem I caused (leakers), once because the 1st rebuilt unit buttons failed after 3-4 hours of use, and then again because the display backlighting failed on the 2nd rebuilt unit after less than 2 hours use. I sent that last rebuilt one back December 3rd and cannot get an answer out of them as to when I will get another replacement back. Gave up more because of the quality concerns and bought an Anywhere Map from Control Vision and I must say I am very impressed with their GPS/PDA combo. More features than the Garmin 496 and cheaper updates too. No I don't own stock just impressed so far. Take a look at their web site if you are tired of Garmin or Lowrance troubles. Just one opinion to share. When I get the Lowrance rebuild back it will be for sale on eBay with an honest description. Lowrance claimed they'd be sending a new unit after all the troubles, we'll see.
